Vintage Punch Bowl

I got an excited phone call from my mother the other day....

Mom: "Gail, I bought something for you that I think you're really going to like. I'm excited!"

There was enthusiasm in her voice....which made ME excited as well!

Gail: "Oh really? What is it? It's not even my birthday!" :)

She proceeded to tell me that she had been to a local antiques store browsing for do-dads for the house when she came upon a gem of an item that had my name all over it....

...a vintage punch bowl.

I love having people over and throwing parties and for the last 2 1/2 years I've always just borrowed her punch bowl and hosting service items. I know she never minded....but it's fun now to start adding to my own hosting collection.

I love the etched glass detail...

...and how sparkly and light reflective the glass is.

And did I mention she also picked up a set of 12 glass plates as well? :) What a sweet mom I have. Thanks, Mom! I'm already starting to plan our next party... and you can be assured that there will be some fabulous punch! YUM.

xoxo,

Gail

Hey, there is a "vintage" blog party on Thursdays where you show off your vintage finds...you can see the blog at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com. This would be the perfect thing to share with everyone!

My mom has that same punchbowl from the 1960s. I wish I had the kind of parties where I could use it.

Oh you would have had a hay day at the thrift store with me tonight. Somebody donated Hundreds of vintage glass items. They had a bowl just like this but I passed it by simply because I do not entertain quite like you must. I did catch some other wonderful finds that I will post soon. See you next week. Have a blessed day, Cherie

What a sweet Mom! Not many use punch bowls any more, and it's so nice to see them being used. I have one with lots of cups I've collected over the years. FYI, yours looks to be from the 1950's Early American Prescut Glass in a pattern called 'Buttons and Bows' by Jeanette Glass Company. Most punch bowls from that era had a base that raised them off the table. They often are mistaken for a vase and get seperated from the bowl. I'll have to post about my set one day soon. There are lots of other pieces to your set like, sherbert cups and sugar and creamers. Have fun collecting!
