B-A-B-Y spells {Baby}

Matthew and I don 't play games that often.....

...even though I really do love an evening of cards or a good ol' game of Scattergories....playing a game with only 2 people really isn't as fun as an entire group of people.

But last night, I was in the mood. Remember the scene in "Father of the Bride 2" when they're all playing Scrabble together waiting for the baby to come? That scene entered my mind and from there on out, I was craving Scrabble like pickles and icecream. Matt was a good husband too, and very obliging seeing as how I wanted to play so much.

First I counted all the pieces to make sure we had the number of each letter that was suppose to go with the game. We had picked up the game at a garage sale for a buck or two awhile back...so I wanted to make sure we were playing fair. CHECK! All pieces present and accounted for. Does anybody else do this besides me?

Instead of playing the regular version of scrabble, we decided to put a twist on it and play "Baby Scrabble". The only rules deviating from
the normal ones were that you had to only make words that had to do with pregnancy or babies. It worked out quite nicely and we had a lot of fun in the process!

Here's the game board and some of the words we came up with:

If there was ever a word in question, the person responsible for the word had to give an explanation in order to proceed. Matt was always good at this....and it made me smile to hear him say how this and that had to do with being pregnant. Funny though, we never could spell "boy"...is that a sign??? Hmmmm. We'll see! Can't wait to find out!

Funny Weather

Texas has funny weather.

Last Sunday we woke up to a winter wonderland....

It didn't compare to our 9 inches in February...but 3 inches is still big news in Dallas, TX.

And then today.....we had typical Spring weather with high humidity levels and rain that poured like cats and dogs. By the way, does anybody know where that funny phrase really comes from? I heard someone say once that "back in the ol' days" when they had thatched roofs, that the cats and dogs would snuggle up on the roof during a storm, but with the weight of the soggy roof combined with the animals, they animals would eventually fall through the roof and into the house. So there you have it: raining cats and dogs. But honestly...that sounds too silly to be true. Must be an urban legend. Seriously....

But anyways, back to the weather. As I was driving home tonight in the pouring rain coming from visiting my sisters who are in town from college, I was remembering how scared I used to be as a child whenever a storm would come. My room faced North on the second story and had 7 windows, so you can imagine the lightening show I had whenever we had a big thunderstorm hit. We're talking my whole room would light up and shake from end to end from the thunder. At 10 I had graduated into a "big girl" room of my own, but I was far from being a big girl. Every time a storm would come I'd hide under my covers for as long as I could, somehow thinking that the covers would protect me. As long as I couldn't see the lightening, it wasn't real. And then...just when I couldn't take it any longer (letting my little mind get the better of me...persuading me that I was going to be struck by lightening) I would tip-toe downstairs, tap my sleeping mother on the shoulder, and tell her I was frightened. Sometimes she prayed with me that I would trust God through the storm...then send me on my way back up to bed...but a lot of times she would make me a little pallet on her side of the bed for me. And there I would sleep, peacefully and soundly, knowing for sure that nothing could harm me with my Mommy & Daddy sleeping right beside me.

I of course outgrew the trips down the stairs during thunderstorms...but as I was driving home tonight it struck me that now, with this little life growing inside of me, that I will be the one very soon to make the pallet or calm my little ones with a soft prayer and a warm embrace. How happy that makes me! What a blessing. :)

Texas has funny weather.....but I am so ready for this new stage in life.

So ready.

{6 Weeks}

A week ago we shared the news with our family & friends.....

We're Pregnant!!!

Well actually......I'm the one that is pregnant, but you understand what I mean. ;-)

I'm very excited about this pregnancy, for many, many reasons. For those who know me or read my blog regularly, you know that we lost our first through miscarriage last Fall. That was a really hard time for us. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. But for those who have...I feel for you. I understand.

But this pregnancy is going really well so far. I'm 6 weeks along today and I am filled with hope and joy. What a blessing every day is. Each moment is precious with this little one I am carrying.

Have a blessed weekend!

{Irish} for a Day

I am in no way Irish.

I've never even been to Ireland. I have friends that have....but not me. Not that I'm bitter, because I'm not....I'm just stating the facts.

But today...all of that changed. Because...today, my friends... I got to be...

Irish for a day.

So, donning our green.... and armed with water bottles.....we set out to enjoy the festivities of the North Texas Irish Festival.

We decided to take the train into downtown to avoid the hassle of parking.

We saw lots of men wearing kilts....

....we saw the largest Irish Wolfhounds you've ever seen (this picture does not do them justice...they wer HUGE!)...

...watched an Irish parade....

....and ate the most delicious Irish stew ever. Seriously, that stuff was gooood!

YUM. :)

Spring Arrival

The other day the doorbell rung.......

...It was late afternoon....so yes, I was up and about and dressed. :)

As soon as I got to the door I saw that somebody had left me a handful of beautiful daffodils!

My Grandmother was scurrying away thinking nobody was home....so of course I had to stop her to say thank you. :) She told me they came from their farm in East Texas and that there were gobs of them in a field. How lovely!

I just love them! Aren't they pretty?

Being the flower-loving girl that I am, I just had to immediately put them in a vase and dress them up a bit. I think the pebbles in the water and rustic branches provide the perfect compliment to these fresh, Spring flowers. :)

What has YOU excited about the prospect of Spring?
